Jane Ellen Short, 67, of Fort Worth, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, February 4, 2019 of an acute illness.  A proud native Texan, Jane was born on April 25, 1951, in Fort Worth, Texas to James Donald “Don” Short, Sr. and Flora Jane Louder “Pody” Short.  A popular student and graduate of Paschal High School, she maintained lifelong friendships and was active on the reunion committee.  Jane graduated from the University of North Texas in 1974 with a BS in Home Economics and a minor in Chemistry. She held professional memberships with the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Texas Academy of Dietetics and the Tarrant Area Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.   Jane dedicated the majority of her professional life to the dialysis community.  She loved her job and sharing her knowledge of nutrition with her patients.  She is fondly remembered by her dialysis patients as “the lady who always made sure I ate my egg whites.”  Her most prized possessions were her rescue dog Cecil, rescue cats Gracie, Rory, and Rudy, and her inherited family cats Albert, Katie, and Buddy.  Jane enjoyed sharing stories about her pets, her travels to Italy and Paris and introducing new foods to her friends.  Shewas kind and giving.  There were many times that she brought food to work on busy days to ensure everyone had something to eat.  One friend in particular remembers Jane going out for sandwich supplies as she was concerned that this friend missed her lunch break.  Jane’s presence will be missed, but her memory will remain strong in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.  Jane was preceded in death by her father and mother, and brother James Donald “Donnie”.  She is survived by numerous cousins, an aunt and many friends.  Services for Jane will be held at Arborlawn United Methodist Church 5001 Briarhaven Rd. Fort Worth, TX 76109 on February 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Friends of Arlington Animal Services (www.faastexas.org) who is fostering Jane’s pets until permanent homes are found.

Those wanting to have a meal together in honor of Jane are invited to join us at Spring Creek Barbeque on Camp Bowie in Fort Worth after the service.

I am completely shocked, and dismayed hearing this sad news that Jane has left us.  She was an enthusiastic reunion volunteer bringing Panthers and even Southwest High schoolers back together!  Jane was such an energetic and cheerful social butterfly.  She will be dearly missed.

I've seen the words "stunning", "beautiful", "goddess" and "knockout" used to describe Jane over the past couple of days. She was my date to the senior prom, and was indeed ALL of those things!

It was my repeated pleasure to use those same words when reminiscing with her at our reunions, and I might add the word "breathtaking."

It's a shame to lose her so close to the next gathering, and though she reminds us all how fragile and precious our mortality is, I'm under the impression her passing was relatively (mercifully) brief and sudden.

I feel blessed to have known her.
