I met Johanna in the third grade and she was so kind.  We lost touch later in school, but I always remembered how nice she was.  RIP.

I'm very shocked to hear of her passing. I think she moved into my neighborhood in 1959, and Joe Gracey maybe a year later. Our street and houses still look about the same, except the trees are much larger.

She and I didn't always get along well as children, but I expected to see her again one day and laugh about all our memories. I find myself filled with a cascade of boyhood recollections, and a diminished set of principal characters to share them with.

I was proud of her for becoming a cheerleader at McLean, and wish her well wherever she may be.

I also lived down the street from Johanna and we became good friends at McLean.  I remember when she moved to Houston before our Junior year at Paschal and I flew to Houston to visit her.  Her parents took us all over Houston and to the San Jacinto Inn where we ate so much seafood we couldn’t eat anymore.  When we moved to Dallas because my Dad was transferred, I was disappointed because I heard Johanna was moving back to Fort Worth.  Our mothers stayed in touch and I had bought a Senior Annual and when the annuals were going to be “delivered”, Johanna called me the night before & asked me to come over and get mine so I could get it signed!  I skipped school that day and drove over and was able to get my annual signed.  I kept up with Johanna and when my husband & I moved to Brownsville I heard Johanna was living a few miles away in McAllen and we both really wanted to visit Gracey when he was diagnosed and had surgery for tongue cancer, but Joe’s Mother said he didn’t want visitors at the time.  I saw Johanna the last time when she gave me and my boys tickets to fly down to see my Mother when she was dying from Cancer in Corpus Christi.  Johanna was very generous but after her divorce she & her parents moved to Minnesota so she could raise her son and not worry about being upset by her exhusband.  God bless you Johanna!  I miss you.
